As we nurture our horticultural programs, workshops, and services, we do so with the understanding that every leaf, every bloom, and every act of kindness contributes to a greener and more compassionate world.

Thank you for being an integral part of our journey. Your belief in Welcome Home Plants helps us sow the seeds of positive change and create spaces where everyone feels the warmth of home.

Hi, I’m Planter Rob

With Welcome Home Plants, my mission is to utilize plants to establish relationships amongst residents recovering from homelessness while growing a community of houseplant lovers who advocate for affordable housing.

Welcome Home Plants

Houseplant advocates advocating for Affordable Housing

Welcome Home Plants is a non-profit organization on a mission to infuse homes with the healing power of nature. We specialize in providing horticultural support and services to families and individuals living in supportive housing. Our green initiatives range from indoor gardening workshops to therapeutic gardening sessions, fostering a sense of well-being and community connection.

“Long-term, five years from now, I would love to have a welcome-plants program that advocates for affordable housing and is able to gift those who were experiencing homelessness indoor plants. But with that—that means we have to advocate for affordable housing so that the government is actually building [it], so that we can actually get people inside the affordable housing, so that we can actually reward them with the feeling of being in the plant community.”

“For me, this looks successful if I have a community of houseplant advocates also advocating for affordable housing. Affordable housing is not a one-time thing; it’s not like we can just—you can’t cure it, you know what I mean? It’s a process; it’s systemic, and that is also why I want to be sure that this is a program that can continue to grow”

“The plant community in itself is so nurturing, so caring;—nine times out of ten, if you’re a plant person, you are just a great human being. I want the residents at Edwin’s Place to feel that and be embraced by that.”

Breaking Ground began with a simple idea—providing housing paired with onsite support could help people escape and avoid homelessness. The Betances Residence (located in Bronx, NY) is designed for seniors who are exiting homelessness or living on very low incomes. With 152 units, our goal is to welcome home 152 new plant parents.

Welcome To The

Plant Community

Nurturing and caring, the plant community welcomes and embraces everyone. Plant repotting workshops provide an opportunity for residents to meet other plant parents and grow together, while learning how to care for their new plants. With your purchase you will also give the gift of knowledge and welcome home a new plant parent to our plant community.

Plants make it a home

When you welcome home a new plant today, you help make it a home for someone else tomorrow. It’s that simple. You purchase a plant, we gift a plant to a permanent resident recovering from housing insecurity.
